Super 8 - Teaser Trailer
The digetic sounds at the start make the audience pay attention to whats going on. We see the truck explode as it hits the train.
Then the cargo train is heading towards the car explosion. It is wrecked, thrown from the tracks like a wild snake. The flaming metal body flipping towards the camera. Cars flying through the air. It is intense and draws you in. One of the first black screens you see shows text: "From Producer Steven Speilberg" who is a famous Producer this can attract more people.
Another black screen and the text: “And Director JJ Abrams". The camera really slowly moves in on the wrecked pieces of the train, most of which is now just scrap metal. At least one car remains intact. Black screen, white text: “Next Summer” We see some sparks. Black screen, white text: “It Arrives” this leaves questions to the audience as to what is arriving which makes you want to find out by seeing the fim. Then a shot of one of the train cars with a US Airforce logo. The wheel on the door begins to spin out of control as we pull in closer. The wall of the door begins to bend like some huge force is punching it from the inside. Cut to one second of a close up of an 8mm camera lens.
Then the name of the film is displayed “Super 8″ the title of the film gives us no clue to what the film is about. Also the trailer is focused on this one scene where the train crashes which means it is important and relevant to watch before seeing the film. The credits at the end were pretty bare. The trailer is effective because it draws the audience in without spoling what the movie is about.
Cloverfield - Teaser Trailer
I personally think the director J.J. Abrams has absolutely mastered the art of the teaser trailer and movie secrecy. I haven't seen any other director able to hide his film as long as he has. This is a brilliant example of what a teaser is supposed to do. It gets you interested in the movie and just leaves you wanting more. Some may say that it went a little extreme with the 'leave you wanting more' part of it, but it manages to give you key information without spoling the story of the movie; it's obviously a monster movie, you know when the release date is, and it gives a sense of the new style of handheld filmmaking we're going to see. Say what you will about the film, but this trailer definitely unique and pleasing to the eye.
The Matrix Revolution - Teaser Trailer
This was most exciting to see because of the big cliffhanger at the end of The Matrix Reloaded. After that, fans of the films were clamoring for any footage they could lay their eyes on. This trailer adeptly shows fans what they want, yet doesn't give away any of the many lingering secrets and questions. The fast paced music keeps the audience viewing with the orchestral music making it feel more tension building. It obviously continues from the last previous Matrix movies which were popular but the way this trailer is constructed it gives fans glimpses of what is expected in the film which makes it more intriuging to watch. It hints that this is the last film in the trilogy with shots of Neo saying "it ends tonight" and the voiceover at the start says "everything that has a beginning, has an end", this is teaser trailer for people who have seen the previous Matrix films otherwise what is seen in the trailer it wouldnt be as appealing to someone who hasnt seen any Matrix film.
